Evening Light Over the Riverside Stadium

The Riverside Stadium has been part of Middlesbrough’s landscape since 1995, replacing Ayresome Park and signalling a new era for the club. Built on the old docklands, the site is steeped in the town’s industrial heritage, sitting right beside the River Tees and within sight of the iconic Tees Transporter Bridge. The ground was designed to echo the scale and ambition of a town reshaping itself after decades of industrial change, and even now it remains one of the most instantly recognisable stadiums in the North East.
Capturing it from the air as the sun sets adds an entirely different atmosphere. The stadium stands bright against the darker tones of the river and the sprawling skyline beyond, while the pools of evening light catch the Tees and the buildings across the town. From above, Middlesbrough looks both wide and open — industry, water, heritage, and football all woven together. The Riverside isn’t just a stadium; it’s part of the Tees itself, and seeing it in this light really shows that connection.
