Holbeck Clock Tower is one of those small but striking features that carry a lot of local story. Built in the early 1900s, it formed part of the elegant Holbeck Gardens, added at a time when Scarborough was firmly established as one of Britain’s leading seaside destinations. Visitors from across the country came for the fresh air, promenades, and fashionable leisure, and structures like this gave the South Cliff its own distinctive sense of style and occasion.

Seen from the air, the tower becomes just one element in a much wider sweep of coastline. Scarborough’s South Bay opens out in a graceful arc, from the spa and gardens to the bustling seafront, with the castle dominating the headland beyond. From above you can appreciate the way the town hugs the shoreline, layered with Victorian terraces, hotels, and winding streets that all face toward the North Sea. It’s a landscape shaped by tourism, heritage, and geology in equal measure — and one that still has that unmistakable old-school seaside atmosphere.
