Bridlington Priory - 900 Years of Yorkshire History | Digital Download

£14.99Price

A magnificent aerial view of Bridlington Priory, capturing the extraordinary Gothic architecture of one of Yorkshire's great medieval churches, surrounded by its historic churchyard and the rooftops of Bridlington's Old Town.

Founded in 1113 by Walter de Gant, Bridlington Priory became one of the wealthiest Augustinian monasteries in England and an important centre of pilgrimage following the canonisation of St John of Bridlington in 1401. Much of the original monastery was destroyed during Henry VIII's Dissolution of the Monasteries, but its magnificent nave survived to become the town's parish church.

This striking photograph captures the Priory's spectacular west front from an unusual elevated perspective, revealing its enormous Gothic window, contrasting towers and intricate stonework. The taller, richly decorated south-west tower and its shorter neighbour were completed during the Victorian restoration led by Sir George Gilbert Scott. The surrounding mature trees and ancient gravestones add to the character of this remarkable historic setting.

A beautiful addition to any home, office or study, and a wonderful gift for anyone who loves Bridlington, Yorkshire's medieval heritage or historic architecture. Particularly special for those with family connections to Bridlington or treasured memories of this beautiful corner of the Yorkshire coast.
