Cronkley Scar - The Wild Landscapes of Upper Teesdale | Digital Download

£14.99Price

Rugged cliffs, sweeping moorland and enormous skies. This striking aerial photograph captures Cronkley Scar in Upper Teesdale, one of the most dramatic and unspoilt landscapes in the North Pennines.

Rising above the Tees Valley, Cronkley Scar is formed from the ancient Whin Sill, a vast sheet of volcanic rock created around 295 million years ago. Its distinctive cliffs were further shaped by glaciers during the last Ice Age, leaving the steep rocky slopes and spectacular upland scenery visible today.

The photograph captures the immense scale of the scar, its green slopes and exposed rock contrasting with the open moorland and rolling Pennine hills beyond. Beneath a brooding blue sky, the landscape stretches into the distance, with just a handful of remote buildings revealing how sparsely populated this remarkable part of County Durham remains.

Part of the North Pennines National Landscape and UNESCO Global Geopark, this area is also celebrated for its rare Arctic-alpine plants, which have survived in Upper Teesdale since the end of the last Ice Age.

A beautiful addition to any home or office, and a wonderful gift for walkers, lovers of wild landscapes or anyone with a special connection to Teesdale and the North Pennines.
