Cliff Beck at Buttertubs Pass - Wild Yorkshire Dales | Digital Download

£14.99Price

A spectacular view into one of the Yorkshire Dales' most dramatic valleys, where Cliff Beck cuts its way through the steep hillsides beneath Buttertubs Pass, surrounded by rugged moorland and sweeping Pennine scenery.

This striking aerial photograph follows the winding beck through a deep, narrow valley, with exposed limestone, scattered scree and green fellside rising sharply on either side. High above the valley, the famous Buttertubs Pass clings to the hillside, its winding road offering a sense of scale against the vast landscape.

Located between Wensleydale and Swaledale, Buttertubs Pass takes its name from the extraordinary limestone potholes near its summit. Local tradition suggests that farmers travelling to market in Hawes once lowered their butter into these natural shafts to keep it cool. Cliff Beck flows through the valley below, an area also known for its remarkable underground cave systems.

The photograph captures the rugged character of the Yorkshire Dales, with the beck disappearing into the distant hills beneath a dramatic, cloud-filled sky. The rich greens, exposed rock and enormous open landscape create a wonderful sense of depth and wilderness.

A striking addition to any home or office, and a wonderful gift for walkers, cyclists, landscape enthusiasts or anyone with a special connection to Swaledale, Wensleydale and the Yorkshire Dales.
