Meik's Lighthouse in the Evening Light | Digital Download

£14.99Price

Bathed in the warm evening sunshine, Meik's Lighthouse stands proudly above the North Sea, its brilliant white tower contrasting beautifully with the deep blue water and soft pink clouds over the Sunderland coastline.

This striking aerial photograph captures one of Sunderland's historic maritime landmarks from a beautiful elevated perspective, with the coastline of Seaburn and Whitburn stretching into the distance.

Built in 1856 by Thomas Meik, engineer to the River Wear Commissioners, the lighthouse originally stood on Sunderland's Old South Pier, guiding ships into one of Britain's busiest industrial ports. When the pier was shortened in 1983, the lighthouse was carefully dismantled and re-erected in Roker Cliff Park, where it remains today as a Grade II* listed monument to Sunderland's maritime heritage.

The photograph captures the elegant Victorian lighthouse in gorgeous evening light, with its long shadow stretching across the grass, the North Sea beyond and a spectacular bank of clouds catching the last sunshine.

A beautiful addition to any home or office, and a wonderful gift for anyone who loves Sunderland, Roker, Seaburn or the North East coastline. Particularly special for those with fond memories of Sunderland's seafront or an interest in Britain's historic lighthouses.

An original Northern Perspectives aerial photograph, available as a digital download, ready for you to print and frame in your preferred size and style.
